Suits, ties and sparkling shoes.
Caps, gowns and smiles.
Memories, tears and hugs.
As much as I have looked forward to this day, I have dreaded it even more. The excitement of throwing the cap high up in the air; yet the sad truth that friends will move out and the student life will be over. The never-ending drives down the memory lane; yet the prospects of a happy future. There is so much to look forward to; and there is so much we are leaving behind.
Today, as you walk on the pedestal, balancing your cap, smiling, remember the good old days.
Remember your friends and professors. Remember the late nights, the homeworks, the cook-outs, the trips and the gaming sessions.
Don't forget the social events where you danced like no one is watching or the movie you went to see just because it was being screened for a dollar.
How can you forget the information sessions you attended just for the free pizza!
The first snow; the first snow storm. The homework deadlines you missed and the numerous e-mails you sent to the professor for a deadline extension.
The always-occupied pool table will definitely hold a soft-spot!
Remember the kernel. Keep copies of the homeworks and the spaghetti code you wrote. You will laugh at it when you will see it 2 years later.
And stay in touch with your friends! They made these days worthwhile.
Do forget the unpleasent but don't forget the lessons learnt.
Thank your parents. Thank the waitress at the Starbucks on Forbes at Craig St. She has helped more than half of us stay awake for the exam.
Take lots of pictures; the still pictures will bring the memories to life when you will show them to your kids :)
After all, it is the 2 year build-up to this day that makes it memorable!
Food for thought, I say!
Happy Graduation to all!
